FASTENERS // A NOMADYN GUIDE TO MATERIALS

At Nomadyn, every detail matters — down to the smallest fastener securing your gear. We use only premium-grade materials to ensure strength, durability, and corrosion resistance in every bolt, screw, and nut included with our products. Our fasteners are carefully selected to meet the demands of rugged adventures, harsh environments, and long-term reliability.

Our Fastener Materials

18-8 Stainless Steel:
Our standard fasteners are made from 18-8 stainless steel, a versatile alloy known for its excellent balance of strength (~75,000 psi tensile), corrosion resistance, and affordability. These fasteners reliably resist rust and oxidation in most off-road and outdoor environments, making them perfect for everyday adventure use.

316 Stainless Steel:
When superior corrosion resistance is required—such as in marine, saltwater, or high-humidity conditions—we offer fasteners made from 316 stainless steel. This marine-grade alloy resists pitting and crevice corrosion, protecting your gear from rust even in the harshest environments.

Black Oxide Stainless Steel:
For ultra-premium, low-visibility applications, we use black oxide coated stainless steel fasteners. The black oxide finish reduces glare and reflection, helping mounts maintain a sleek, stealthy profile. Beyond aesthetics, the coating enhances corrosion resistance and reduces friction and galling—important for parts that require precise torque or frequent maintenance. This option is selectively offered where minimal visual impact is critical.

Titanium Fasteners:
For the ultimate in corrosion resistance and strength-to-weight ratio, titanium fasteners are available for select products. Titanium offers a tensile strength of around 130,000 psi, is highly resistant to corrosion (including saltwater and chemical exposure), and is non-magnetic—ideal for the most demanding environments and adventurers seeking maximum durability with minimal weight.

Installation Best Practices

Proper installation is essential to maximize fastener performance and product longevity:

Hand Tighten with Care:
For all Nomadyn products—especially our aluminum mounts—we recommend tightening fasteners by hand using appropriate hand tools. Power tools can apply excessive force, increasing the risk of thread damage, galling, or deformation. Tighten fasteners firmly until you feel increasing resistance, then stop. Over-tightening can compromise the integrity and durability of the parts.

Thread Locking Compound:
For fasteners subject to vibration or dynamic loads—common in off-road applications—using a medium-strength thread locking compound (such as Loctite Blue 242) helps prevent loosening while still allowing future removal with hand tools.

Anti-Seize Compound:
To prevent galling on stainless steel fasteners, especially when threading into dissimilar metals like aluminum, apply a high-quality anti-seize compound sparingly where recommended. This protects threads, eases future disassembly, and guards against corrosion in harsh environments.

Inspection and Maintenance:
Periodically check fasteners for signs of loosening, corrosion, or wear, particularly those exposed to extreme conditions or vibration. Reapply thread locker or anti-seize as needed during routine maintenance.

Following these guidelines helps ensure your fasteners remain secure and durable, keeping your Nomadyn gear performing reliably on every adventure.

Environmental & Lifecycle Impact

By using corrosion-resistant alloys and premium coatings only where necessary, we balance performance with sustainability. Fasteners made from stainless steel and titanium last longer, reducing replacement frequency and material waste over the product lifecycle.

Both stainless steel and titanium are highly recyclable materials, helping minimize environmental impact at end-of-life. Combined with Nomadyn’s on-demand manufacturing and carefully managed inventory, this approach supports responsible resource use and reduces excess waste.
